The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) has been developed by the World Health Organization as a simple screening tool to pick up the early signs of hazardous and harmful drinking and identify possible alcohol dependence.

DHI

Developing Health and Independence is a local charity that was set up in 1999 to help people out of the cycle of homelessness, social isolation and drug or alcohol abuse.  Refer to the South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Service | DHI webpage for further information on the South Glos Drug & Alcohol Service.

Support available includes:

  • Psycho-educational structured groups
  • 1:1 support planning and key worker support- mostly time limited to 6 sessions
  • Opiate substitute therapy through shared care model with GPs and pharmacies
  • Mutual aid groups and peer support
  • Naloxone (overdose prevention) training and provision
  • Preparation for detox
  • Access to rehab via referral
  • Relapse prevention and maintain recovery support
  • Dry blood spot BBV testing
  • Harm reduction advice and needle exchange
  • Referrals to external agencies EG Housing, counselling services

Referral

Self-referrals, as well as those from a professional, are welcome. People will be contacted by phone within 5 working days of their referral and often much sooner. The triage team will complete an assessment over the phone and ensure that access to the right support is put in place as soon as possible.
