15.1.6 Peri-operative sedation
Specific indication:
Dexmedetomidine (TLS Red)
- For use in Paediatric intensive care for use in long stay patients who are experiencing difficult sedation, particularly those with life threatening pulmonary hypertension or intractable withdrawal from sedation/analgesic drugs

Dexmedetomidine (intranasal) (TLS Red)
- Second line treatment option for sedative pre-medication before general anaesthesia for surgery. For use on the ward / in theatres only under guidance of specialist.
- Intranasal dexmedetomidine should be administered via an atomiser to aid absorption.
