Skin cleansers and antiseptics and desloughing agents

Available from NHS Supply Chain (EROS) apart from the following items that are available from Pharmacy.

 

Antiseptics and disinfectants

Recommended: (TLS Green)

Chlorhexidine gluconate 4%

Ortho-phthalaldehyde solution 0.55% (Cidex OPA® & NU - Cidex®)

Tristel® multishot

Hydrogen peroxide 1% cream (Crystacide®)

  • For the treatment of impetigo

Octenidine 0.3% Lotion (Octenisan®)

  • For MRSA decolonisation where chlorhexidine not suitable

Prontoderm® Foam (TLS Red)

  • For MRSA decolonisation for renal and transplant patients who cannot comply with or do not respond to Chlorhexidine or Octenidine
  • Restricted use in line with Trust policy

 

Iodine Products

Recommended: (TLS Green)

Povidone iodine dry powder spray 2.5%

Povidone iodine ointment 10%

 

Astringents

Recommended: (TLS Green)

Potassium permanganate 400mg (Permitabs®)

On 5th April 2022 a National Patient Safety Alert was issued on the risk of inadvertent oral administration of potassium permanganate. Please refer to the NPSA alert for more information. Link to the ICS Potassium Permanganate Guidance and Risk Assessment
