11.5 Mydriatics and cycloplegics

- A preservative free option (or single unit dose drops) may be prescribed if available for all formulary products listed if clinically necessary, as an alternative option
- Please ensure that all prescriptions for eye drops clearly state the number of drops, into which eye(s), and the frequency of administration
Antimuscarinics
Recommended: (TLS Green)
Atropine 1% eye drops
Cyclopentolate 0.5 % or 1% eye drops
Tropicamide 0.5% or 1% eye drops
- To examine the fundus of the eye Tropicamide 0.5% eye drops are used at NBT and Tropicamide 1% eye drops are used at UHBW
Sympathomimetics
Recommended: (TLS Green)
Phenylephrine 2.5% single-use eye drops
Specific indication: (TLS Red)
Phenylephrine 2.5% eye drops (unlicensed)
- Mydriasis for diagnostic or surgical procedures
