Under section 23 of the Children and Families Act 2014 there is a duty for health bodies to inform parents of any voluntary organisations likely to be able to offer advice or assistance in connection with any special educational needs or disability their child may have.
There are local organisations who can offer FREE information, advice and or assistance to such parents.
The SAY SENDIAS service is available across BNSSG.
SEND and You (SAY) SENDIAS Service – a free, confidential and impartial statutory service offering information, advice and support (IAS) to children and young people (0-25 years) with Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND), parents and carers as well as Professionals.
We offer advice about areas of SEND, including the EHC assessment process, early years, support in school, exclusions, admissions, complaints and appeals, as well as signposting. We offer an IAS Line with a 24-hour answerphone, have a contact form via our website and provide support group and/or surgery sessions.

Independent Provider of Special Education Advice (known as IPSEA) is Nationwide charity which offers free and independent legally based information, advice, support and training to help get the right education for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

JIGSAW is a charity based in South Glos. which offers support and events for families and young people with additional needs. The charity supports people living within BS, BA or GL postcodes.
Efforts are made to ensure the accuracy and agreement of these guidelines, including any content uploaded, referred to or linked to from the system. However, BNSSG ICB cannot guarantee this. This guidance does not override the individual responsibility of healthcare professionals to make decisions appropriate to the circumstances of the individual patient, in consultation with the patient and/or guardian or carer, in accordance with the mental capacity act, and informed by the summary of product characteristics of any drugs they are considering. Practitioners are required to perform their duties in accordance with the law and their regulators and nothing in this guidance should be interpreted in a way that would be inconsistent with compliance with those duties.
