Hip Dysplasia

Checked: 23-08-2021 by Vicky Ryan Next Review: 23-08-2022

Principles of Management

See the guidelines provided by Bristol Royal Hospital for Children on Congenital Hip Dysplasia (dislocation) - GP referral

Please note:

The guideline is aimed at babies in the newborn period or being seen at 6-8 week check, not for babies any older, and not toddlers.

The Children’s Hospital occasionally succeed to get diagnostic images with children who are 4-6 months old (particularly if they born prematurely), however ideally patient should not be more than 3 months old.

Clicky rather than dislocatable hips are unlikely to be of clinical significance, and an assessment by an orthopaedic surgeon is required before referral for imaging.

Referral

Please use ICE to request a scan or see the Paediatric radiology page for further information.
