Patient / Parent Information
There is useful information on contraindications and cautions to vaccination on the patient.info website including advice on when to refer to secondary care.
Where there is any doubt, rather than withholding vaccine, advice should be sought.
Referral to Immunology / Infectious diseases clinic
For children that cannot have vaccinations in a primary care setting or who have had non-allergic immunisation reactions there is a secondary care clinic available via e-RS (under Child and Adolescent Services - immunology - Paediatric Infectious Diseases) - waits for this service are 4-6 months (as of November 2024).
There is no advice and guidance available for this service. For urgent queries please contact the paediatric infectious diseases team via switchboard. Advice about suspected reactions to an immunisation should be sought from the immunology team using the clinic above rather than the allergy team.
Referrals to Allergy clinic
Please do not refer children to the allergy service unless there is a clear immediate (IgE mediated) allergic reaction to an immunisation.
