Developmental impairment

Overview

Sirona care & health accepts referrals for children with developmental impairment. Potential services that may also be involved include:

  • Specialist Community Learning Disability Team
  • Health Visitors
  • School Health Nursing
  • Community Paediatrics
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy

Who to refer

Any infant or child who is impaired or disordered in one or more areas of development despite intervention from first tier services such as the health visitor.

Children at risk of developmental problems due to their medical history, such as specific genetic disorders or extreme prematurity.

Red Flags

  • Persistence of primitive reflexes at six months.
  • Not walking by 18 months
  • Development of handedness before age two years
  • No smile by eight weeks

Before referral

Please collate information from all known health professionals eg Health Visitor, Children’s Centre, Social Worker to include within referral information.

Referral

Referral can be made to the team using the Single Point of Entry form. This should also be available as an EMIS template.
