Overview- Horizons

From 1st April 2025,  drug and alcohol support for the people of Bristol is delivered by  Horizons – Bristol’s Drug & Alcohol Partnership. This replaces the previous system known as Bristol ROADS.

 

Horizons is a partnership of 9 different organisations including:

  • Bristol Drugs Project
  • One25
  • The Nelson Trust
  • Southmead Development Trust
  • The Southmead Project
  • Hawkspring
  • The Wellspring Settlement
  • Release

GPs can refer patients, or patients can be advised to contact BDP's Harm Reduction Centre detailed below.

Community Recovery Centre Hub Locations

Horizons have locations across the city, with more planned to open with time. The main hubs are:

Central Hub (including Health & Harm Reduction Centre)

Opening hours: Monday - Friday 9am – 5pm, Saturday – 9:30am – 1pm

South Hub

Horizons' Services

Horizons provides a wide range of services that are appropriate and accessible for the people that need them. They can support people with any substance, wherever they are at with their treatment journey; from the first time they may have accessed a drug and alcohol service to people who are well experienced in accessing support.

We can offer one to one support, access to our group work program, social support groups, specific support for women and people who identify as LGBTQ+, online support and other options that are appropriate for the individual.

Horizons works in partnership with GP Practices to provide alcohol detoxes and opioid substitute prescriptions and detoxes in the community.

GPs can refer into Horizons services via our online booking tool that can be used during appointments or by calling the number below.

Shared Care

BDP’s Shared Care team work in GP Practices across Bristol to support your patients with an alcohol detox or an opioid substitute prescription and detox.

Assessments for opioid substitution treatment are undertaken by BDP Shared Care and Assessment team.

Homelessness and Housing

Addiction Recovery Agency (ARA) provides supported housing opportunities to match the needs of individuals at different stages in their recovery journey. Professionals can refer via the Housing Support Register.

Referrals

****New Referral Process from 1st May 2025****

The previous BDP booking tool has now become the Horizons booking tool. This new tool functions in the exact same way but will look slightly different. If you have any issues, please contact george.herbert@horizonsbristol.co.uk.

Referrers will be able to offer the patient an assessment appointment before they leave the consultation. Alternatively, this can be delegated to practice admin teams. Please note that old referral forms will no longer be accepted.

Urine drug screen - Horizons will be able to dip test Urine Drug Screens at assessment so these are no longer needed with a referral.
