Secondary Care DVT Services

Service Overview

A New DVT pathway for BNSSG was introduced from 1.5.19 and is run by GP Care

Patients should only be referred to Secondary Care if they are not eligible for this service. Please see the GP Care exclusion criteria:

  • Suspected diagnosis of pulmonary embolism
  • Patients under 18 years of age
  • Patients with a suspected upper limb DVT
  • Housebound patients with significant manual handling implications e.g. requiring hoisting.
  • Other disease process or acutely ill patient that requires admission to secondary care
  • Weight over 165kg

UHB DVT Service

Only refer if unsuitable for GP Care DVT service.

Out of hours please email this referral form to ThrombosisClinic@uhbw.nhs.uk or leave an ansaphone message on 0117 342 4684 with above details on form.

The service operates Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (scanning)

Weekends and bank holidays 9.15am - 1pm (no scanning)

NBT DVT Service

Only refer if unsuitable for GP Care DVT service.

There is no dedicated DVT clinic at NBT but patients can be seen in Ambulatory care  at Southmead Hospital.

Please call the Weekday Professional Line (0117 2449283) to arrange or during out of hours call the Southmead Hub (0117 4140700). DVT scanning stops at 5pm so if late in the day and no concerns about PE then anti-coagulate and arrange patient to be seen the next morning.

WGH DVT Service

Only refer to WGH if the patient is clinically unsuitable for GP Care DVT service.

Please contact the emergency ambulatory care service via WGH switchboard or on call medical team if this service is closed.
